Cavtat and Konavle region

Cavtat (Ragusavecchia) is a pretty fishing village in Dubrovnik-Neretva County,centre of Konavle municipality.It's 18 kilometres south of Dubrovnik .Built around a natural harbour between two wooded peninsulas. Behind these are banks of houses linked by a maze of steps.Car access to the centre is limited (local permit holders only). The Adriatic sea is crystal clear and teeming with fish. Along the waterfront are restaurants, café bars and souvenirs shops, as well as the church of St Nicholas,monastery of Our Lady of the Snow, Vlaho Bukovac house, Racic Mausoleum and Cemetery. You can stroll around the northern peninsula any time (it's well lit at night). The southern peninsula is undeveloped,apart from the large and luxurious Hotel Croatia. Dubrovnik , the pearl of Adriatic is just over half an hour away by boat or bus and there are excursions to local islands. The Cavtat harbour is also frequented by some impressive yachts. The borders with Bosnia and Montenegro are only a short drive away. Dubrovnik Airport is ten minutes away by car.

There is a frequent boat service from Cavtat harbour to Dubrovnik old town. Other attractions includes excursions to off shore islands such as Lokrum(according to legend Richard the Lion Heart, on his return from the Third Crusade War in Palestine,in 1192,found a shelter from a terrible storm in a bay on the island of Lokrum.He pledged if he survived the storm he would build a church where he first touched land),Mljet, and the Elaphite Islands as well as day trips to Montenegro (Kotor,Sveti Stefan) and Bosnia and Hercegovina(Mostar, Medjugorje). Short drive from Cavtat will lead you to Soko grad (fortress of the times of the Dubrovnik Republic) and Cilipi, a place next to Cavtat, where you will meet traditions of Konavle.Folklore events have been organised in Cilipi each Sunday, from Easter to the end of October. Behind village of Cilipi, natural landscape will lead you to a unique bathing area on the Konavle rocks, known only to the locals. Take relaxing and exciting horse ride through pine trees, olive groves and rocky seaside of the Adriatic sea.
